European Research Institute on Chinese Martial arts
(Version francaise-cliquer ici)
The
Chinese martial arts (wushu) are divided into about 80 classical styles
which are themselves often subdivided into many well-individualized
branches, giving a total of several hundreds distinct fighting systems.
Each system has its own original strategies and techniques for bare
hand fighting and traditional weapons. The extraordinary variety of
Chinese weapons is also well-worth mentioning. This diversity of styles, weapons and the
sophistication reached by some fighting systems allow one to state that
the Chinese civilisation is arguably the one that has contributed the
most to the world cultural heritage in the field of martial arts.
The ERICMA is a non
profitable organization composed of amateur and professional
sinologists whose goals are the study and the conservation of these
Chinese cultural assets. In particular, the ERICMA is active in:
constituting a library devoted to the Chinese martial arts and
connected fields (traditional medecine, qigong, ...)
funding research trip on the field in various parts of China
inviting researchers and foreign masters to visit and share their
knowledge
spreading the informations gathered by means of all sorts of
publications
assisting other organizations which would
like to benefit from its expertise in its field of investigations
conserving the traditional practices
it studies by keeping them alive within the organization members.
The ERICMA is also the
French representant of the Qingdao Taiji
Tanglang quan club
and of the European
Praying Mantis Boxing Association.
