The "Zhongguo Wushu Renming
Cidian" ( the dictionary of chinese famous martial artists) is a real
Who's Who in Chinese martial arts. It records 6157 famous master
biographies from ancient to recent times. Song Zide, a famous Tanglang
(Praying Mantis) master of the end of the Qing dynasty and grand
grandfather
of Wang Yong, is of course recorded in it. So is Wang Yushan, his
grandfather, who won the 1933 Jinan free fighting tournement and was
known
as one of the "3 mountains of Laiyang". So is his father, Wang
Yuanqian, a rare
priviledge for a contemporary master.
Wang Yong started his martial art
training at the age of 5 and was supervised by his grandfather until
the age of 11. Then, Wang Yushan passed away and he followed his
father. Wang Yong has now succeeded
to his father. He teaches the art of praying mantis boxing in Qingdao
according to his family tradition.
